Unique alternatives to social housing.

This is by far one of the best books on social housing. Unlike other books that offer utopian concepts for solving issues common with social housing, this book goes in depth to explain theoretical concepts taken to practice.

The system consisting of the adjoint equa tion, the original state equation, and the maximum condition is referred to as an (extended) Hamiltonian system. On the other hand, in Bellman's dynamic programming, there is a partial differential equation (PDE), of first order in the (finite-dimensional) deterministic case and of second or der in the stochastic case. This is known as a Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation.

Wow: a general solution to stochastic control problems!

This book covers general stochastic control more thoroughly than any other book I could find.
This is *not* a book on numerical methods. It is also not on the cases which yield closed-form solutions: there is a chapter on LQG problems, but for the most part, this book focuses on the general theory of stochastic controls -- which are not the easiest things to solve in general, as you may know. The book handles only diffusion processes with perfect knowledge of the past and present (natural filtration). If these sound like what you want, I doubt there's a more thorough treatment.
It starts with a chapter on preliminaries of prob. spaces and stoch. processes and the Ito integral. After that, the book briefly addresses deterministic problems in order to compare solution methods to the stoch. approaches. It approaches the problems using a stochastic maximum principle and a stochastic Hamiltonian system, and also from a dynamic programming point of view using HJB equations. The authors attempt to show the relationship between the two approaches.
This book is technically rigorous. Though it claims to be self-contained, the reader should certainly be familiar with functional analysis and stochastic processes.
The authors try to keep the solutions as general as possible, handling non-smooth cases as well as smooth ones. This is fine, except that they don't emphasize well enough (I thought), for instance, that the solutions are much simpler when functions are well behaved on convex bodies (it's mentioned as a note on p. 120), or when diffusions are not dependent on controls, and such.
Because of this tendency to present one solution which will handle any case, it could sometimes be difficult to figure out what all the terms are. In the end, it all works out. Each chapter ends with a few pages of "historical background": who did what piece of the theory when, with an excellent list of references. (I found the originals useful to help explain things, on occasion, especially to see simpler ways to do simpler cases)
Altogether, a very thorough piece on general solutions to stochastic control! I was quite impressed.

A very readable book

From every page of the book, it is clear, that the two authors know the subject, they are writing about!

It is assumed, that the reader knows something about stochstic calculus and stochastic differential equations, and also about measure theoretic probability theory. My only exposure to these subjects was the book "Brownian Motion and Stochastic Calculus" by I. Karatzas and S. Shreve, and this was enough.

The pace of the book was just right for me ( I am an engineer with a lot of interest in mathematics), not too slow, and not too fast.

It might be advisable to read chapter 7 right after chapter 2 unless you have had previous exposure to BFSDE (Backward-Forward-Stochastic-Differential-Equations), which are extremely well explained there.

The book is not free of typos ( I found about 30 ), but given the complexity of the sub/super scripts, it does not seem bad at all.

I loathe books about witches and I don't usually care for vampires much either but I received a free copy of this book and liked the blurb enough to open it up. I am so glad I did!

I read 250+ books a year and most of those are urban fantasy or romance and honestly after about 150 books so far this year, I have been getting to the stage where I am saying to myself - "this is boring, I need to get myself another hobby". I read series I love but the bulk of my reading is from trying new ebooks in the search for new favourites. This year I have discovered precious few that I would rush out and buy the next of, maybe 10 or less so far but this series will be an autobuy for sure. It is a perfect hot paranormal romance and very compelling. I read it till 4a.m one weekend day and night. The world building is fantastic, pace perfect and characterisations are good. It is emotional and evocative and stronglyerotic. Kresley Cole (world building and sexiness) and Kelley Armstrong (pacing, characterisation and emotional depth) are the comparators that spring to mind. If you enjoy a good erotic paranormal romance a little on the dark side, this is for you!

WOW Where do I begin. I have read all the books that are published of this chronicle so far and these characters are in a league of their own. This story is very addictive, the authors descriptions are so vivid I felt like I was in their world.That's when you know a writers is truly gifted. The author has created the best vampire portrayal I have encountered. Maribel is a on the brink of womanhood and she just cant get a certain dark dangerous vampire out of her head. So she does what most young girls do, dive head first into something she has no idea about. And wow does she go through some things because of that decision. Cairo is a big, dark, fierce warrior with a lost soul. All he knows is emptiness all he sees is the satisfaction in his hunt for vengeance. Until he is forced to revisit something from his past. No spoilers but, I'll say this... be prepared to be BLOWN away. This a must have for all those who love supernatural/ human entanglements. Buy it you will not regret it this book is not just dark erotica nor is it a simple story of supernatural, its a story about the intensity of passion how far we are willing to go to feel it. Passion can fill many needs and in many ways, for each character the other supplies a need and they get to a point where they must have it no matter the consequences. There is an array of secondary characters with stories of there own that make for a full experience of this awesome world she has created. I'm a huge fan of Soraya and I previously followed her on wattpad and I had to come over to Amazon to congratulate her and to share my review. If I was you, I would purchase the whole series. Well worth the money. This story stayed with me a long time after I read it ...I still think about it often. Thank You Soraya not just for a book but for a true experience.MEDASLOVE

A sexy book that you should take seriously

To Summon a Vampire might seem at first glance like an easy read, something to do when you don't want to think, but this is one of the most gripping and difficult novels I've ever read. There is a lot of pain in this novel, a lot of grief, and a lot of love. Maribel and Cairo are not likable characters by any means, and yet, at the end, you can't help but feel a deep sympathy for both of them. Even the second romantic arc, following Dana and Lawrence's story, is tough and unyielding. Soraya Cage writes sexy books, yes - but she also writes really thoughtful books. I reread certain chapters over and over again, because they were so well-written, so intensely emotional. The scariest thing about Soraya's vampires and witches is that they are so terribly human and subsequently, entirely responsible for their devastation. This book is for anyone who has ever been unhinged by love.

In all cases, Coetzee's interest is in the nature and dynamics of colonial (and racist) literature. About the Author
Thomas K. McInerny, MD, FAAP has been a primary care pediatrician in private practice in Rochester, NY for 40 years and is Professor and Associate Chair for Clinical Affairs in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Rochester Medical Center. He is a graduate of Dartmouth College and Harvard Medical School and did his pediatric residency training at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital. He has held many elected and appointed positions in the AAP since 1987 including President of Chapter I, District II, Member and chair of the Pediatric Research in the Office Setting Steering Committee, Member and Chair of the Chapter Forum Committee, Member and Chair of the Committee on Child Health Financing, and the Steering Committee on Quality Improvement and Management. He also was a member of the Task Force on Mental Health which developed the AAP Mental Health Toolkit.

He is a member of the American Pediatric Society and the Academic Pediatric Association and a Certified Physician Executive and Fellow of the American College of Physician Executives. In 2011 he was elected President of the AAP, and he served from 2012 to 2013.

Henry M. Adam, MD, FAAP: Until recently, Dr. Henry M. Adam was a Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, NY. After graduating Phi Beta Kappa from Hamilton College and studying as a Woodrow Wilson Foundation Fellow at Yale University, he graduated from the State University of NY-Upstate Medical Center in 1979, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Following pediatric residency training at Mount Sinai Medical Center in NYC, he was a Fellow in general and behavioral pediatrics and then joined the faculty at Einstein.

He has directed the Pediatric Outreach Program (1984-86), the AIDS Day Care Center (1987-90), and the Pediatric AIDS Primary Care Program (1990-94), all at Jacobi Medical Center. As an educator, Dr. Adam directed the pediatric residency training program at Montefiore Medical Center (1994-2002), has received the Lewis Fraad Teaching Award, and has been elected to the Leo Davidoff Teaching Society.

Deborah Campbell, MD, FAAP, is Professor of Clinical Pediatrics and Associate Professor of Clinical Obstetrics & Gynecology and Women’s Health at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Program Director for the fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine, and Director of the Division of Neonatology at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore. She conducts the Low birth weight infant Evaluation and Assessment Program (LEAP) and has served various leadership roles at the American Academy of Pediatrics, New York State Association of Regional Perinatal Programs and Networks, NYC Local Early Intervention Coordinating Council, and Greater New York March of Dimes Health Professionals Advisory Board and National March of Dimes.

She is a member of the Greater New York Hospital Association Perinatal Safety Collaborative Advisory Group, the National Quality Forum Perinatal Collaborative, and the New York State Perinatal Quality Collaborative Neonatology Expert Workgroup. She also serves on the NYS Palliative Care Education and Training Council, an expert panel that has developed guidance and advice for the New York State Department of Health on best practices in pain management and end-of-life care. She served as a member on the AAP Taskforce on Implementation of Newborn Hearing Screening and the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) Program. She is currently co-chair of the Bright Futures Guidelines, 4th edition Infancy Expert Panel.

Deepak M. Kamat, MD, PhD, FAAP, received his MD and PhD from the University of Bombay, India and then completed his residency in pediatrics and fellowship in pediatric immunology and bone marrow transplant at the University of Minnesota. He also served as the program director for the combined Medicine/Pediatrics program at the University of Minnesota. Currently, he is a professor at the Carman and Ann Adams Department of Pediatrics at the Childrens Hospital of Michigan and Wayne State University. He is also the vice chair of education, director of the Institute of Medical Education, and program director for the International Health Pathway and Pediatric Global Health Certificate program. Dr Kamat is honored with many teaching awards by medical students and residents at the University of Minnesota, at West Virginia University, and at the Childrens Hospital of Michigan/Wayne State University. He practices general pediatrics, clinical immunology, and international health.

Dr Kamat is the lead editor of the Point-of-Care Quick Reference on Pediatric Care Online™. He Kamat is appointed editor of the Index of Suspicion Section of Pediatrics in Review from July 2008, and he is an associate editor of the AAP Textbook of Pediatric Care.

Great book, the gold standard intro

This book is a very finely crafted comprehensive introduction to pharmacokinetics, with enough pharmacodynamics to give one context. If you are new to PK/PD and need to understand and work with the subject matter this is an EXCELLENT starting point and a fine reference. The prose is clear, the organization thoughtful, and the figures and diagrams are masterful - best in class. The authors are both renowned academics with extensive industrial experience. That background shines through in the thoughtful way that topics are motivated and explained. I found the questions useful and thought-provoking. Isn't it the case that the more iron one pumps in the gym, the stronger one is on the playing field?
One thing that I would add to this book (and most other PK books I've seen) would be a comprehensive listing of the different math models (one or two compartment, IV, or zero or first order input, etc), highlighting different uses (closed form solutions are easiest to use for parameter estimations, ODE formulations for repeat dosing, etc.) and their different parameterizations. This book contains some of this information (e.g. Table 19-1), but an appendix with this info would be useful. An additional improvement with great teaching utility might be an elementary modeling/estimation program for MS-Excel.
For those needing an overview of PK (e.g. a pharma executive responsible for a development program) without a lot of the details necessary for practitioners, a less-comprehensive book that is also very good is Peter Welling's "Pharmacokinetics". Gabriellson's and Weiner's book "PK and PD Data Analysis" has a more spotty overview of the basic subject matter, but does have descriptions of many techniques not found elsewhere. The latter book is "WinNonLin-centric" (WinNonLin is a program written by one of the authors) which may be what is wanted.
My favorite intro book and basic referencer for PK is definitely Rowland and Tozer. Bravo!

Best reference on PK

This excellent book (1980 edition) was my introduction to this topic. I have it in my bookshelf and I keep referring back to it. Without planning it, I've become the resident PK expert in my department thanks to this reference! Thank you Drs. Rowland and Tozer.

The Bible of Pharmcokinetics

"Clinical Pharmacokinetics: Concepts and Applications" (or better known as Rowland and Tozer) is a book filled with deep concepts and good explanations. It is the Bible of Pharmacokinetics. If there is a PK concept you want to look up, this book will be the first place you look for it. Before giving the review, let me introduce my background. I have a formal education in physical chemistry and analytical chemistry and am currently working in the field of pharma. I have currently read through half of this book. Although I have not completely finishing the book, I believe there is enough information to share.

The previous PK book I read was Concepts In Clinical Pharmacokinetics by Joseph T. Dipiro and it is a shorter and simpler book than Rowland and Tozer. While "Concepts In Clinical Pharmacokinetics" was a delight to read, it is on the simpler side and a lot of concepts are left unexplained. When I was reading it, there were often moment of "How did he get from this to that?" or "Where this comes from?", and I had to stop reading and tried to derive the equations. In contrast, Rowland and Tozer explain the principles of PK in great details and often from multiple angles, so that the readers can fully appreciate how the concepts are linked together, how PK theories apply and how PK impacts pharmacology research and the drug discovery. The exercises are challenging, but not impossible. Well, a few of them are nearly impossible, but most of them can be worked out (even for someone of my background).

I would love to give it a 4.5 stars, but that is not an option. I do see there are a few shortcomings in this book. Although it is very detailed, it can be too detailed for beginners, except for students who has more time. It is best to start off with a short and easy to read introductory book. Yes, Rowland and Tozer have explained many concepts in multiple ways and this is generally good, except when you are busy. Sometime, I just feel like: I get your point already. The Final and the real criticism is that the book can be a bit dry. Unlike "Concepts In Clinical Pharmacokinetics", this is not a book to be breezed through.
