Detailed and a picture for every cookie

Dorie's newest cookbook doesn't disappoint. There are enough cookies in this tome, along with variations and suggesstions for "making them your own" that you could bake a different cookie every day for about a year. The pictures of each cookie take up a whole page. There is some useful information at the beginning of the book that will help in making
your baking endeavors successful. The recipes look long, but that is
because they are detailed; when using expensive ingredients and
investing lots of time, it's nice to know someone cared enough to make
sure you'll be rewarded with great cookies by following the directions.
There is a cookie in here for every taste and only a few recipes require
specialized equipment. I would not buy this book unless you have a
strong stand mixer (Kitchenaid) or intend to invest in one. Other handy
items to have when using recipes in this book are cookie scoops,
silicone mats, French rolling pin that is untapered, spacer bars for
rolling, muffin tins, candy and oven thermometers and 2" cookie cutters.
Specialized equipment would include 2" food rings, pizzelle iron and
waffle iron--but again, only used for a small number of recipes.

This is my fifth Dorie Greenspan cookbook and the first one I'm not happy with. Her recipes always work beautifully and, at first glance, this book does look beautiful. But the typestyle makes it difficult to read. The layout means turning pages in the middle of instructions. While the photos are beautiful and appetizing, they don't always give you an honest idea of what the cookie will look like.

I've made three of these recipes in the past couple of days and they turned out great. However the results for one was a surprise because of the way it was photographed. Upon examining the recipe, I see it turned out exactly as it should, but the photo was deceiving.

I'm certainly keeping it for the recipes, but am really disappointed Dorie didn't keep to the format of her previous books, especially for that horrid typestyle.

Her next super hit to my palate was in her book "Paris ...

I first discovered Dorie Greenspan's genius in "Baking With Julia." Her rugelach recipe in that book is supernal, just astonishingly delicious. Her next super hit to my palate was in her book "Paris Sweets," which included Pierre Herme's recipe for what he called "Korova" cookies, which Dorie later went on to rename "World Peace Cookies," in honor of their potential. Both of these recipes, along with hundreds of others which will probably yield equally memorable results, are included in "Dorie's Cookies." A section devoted to savory cocktail bites is a revelation, a real boon to those who want make-ahead ideas for the coming holidays. BUT...but...the photography, the layouts, wow, what a disappointment. Realizing each recipe is accompanied by a photograph, budget may have dictated this stripped down, utterly charmless approach. But I feel it's a disservice to Dorie's work and most certainly doesn't inspire one to bake, which of course is the ultimate challenge to the food photographer and stylist. Doris's fans will find the gold in the dross but newbies may be disappointed.

A Perfect gift for your special friend!

I was absolutely overjoyed with the contents of this beautiful book. Page after page of wonderful, delightful illustrations for your very dear friend to color. I was eager to give this to my friend. Each page has a quote that, in conjunction with all the quotes in the book, sums up the meaning of friendship and the character of a true friend. My friend was delighted to receive this. I highly recommend it.

Another chapter in the gorgeous Druuna saga. Eleuteri Serpieri is a star at his art and one only wishes he would treat us to more of his superb artwork showing his profound knowledge of the human body. Usual narrative about quite interesting issues about consciouness and hybrid cyborg technology, but the outstanding feature is the quality of the drawings. Druuna is a dream as an idealised lover-woman-whore....Good stuff!

If you have never heard of the Nashville number system, this book is for you!

If you are new to music theory and have not heard of the Nashville number system, this book is for you! Becky Shaw does a great job explaining how to read chord charts and transpose keys in minutes. If you have some knowledge of these concepts already, this book might not get provide a tremendous amount of new information. Still, there are take-aways from this book no matter your level of experience. Definitely a good read!

Great recipes, if you have plenty of time for cooking!

An excellent book, lots of traditional & "classics" recipes, written with much detail & care, but for serious cooks that can spend a few hours in the kitchen.

The only problem (or advantage, depends how you look at it) is that this is aimed for profesionnal cooks that have plenty of time, ingredients, and utensils in their hands. If you want to study & learn the basics of french cuisine and are ready to invest what it takes, then this is an excellent reference. But be warned that many recipes is written over 1-3 pages (very detailed step-by-step description with the politically correct - french - terms for each procedure). So a solid and generously illustrated reference if you want to learn how real restaurants cook do their trade!

If you're an amateur and would like to cook "real & serious food" at home, but don't have hours to carefully carve every piece of vegetable and create many stocks, sauces & such, then pick another book. The recipes in this one look delicious, and the book itself is great (lots of photographies, very interesting and relevant text), but I never cooked anything from this book yet (so can't comment on how these taste) simply because it seems that each recipe will take me 3 hours... and I always end up chosing something in another book that looks doable for a weekly dinner.

Maybe I'll do a coq au vin for my dad's birthday when I have a long weekend ahead? Maybe... Or when I'll retire?

The book,Cuisine Foundations Classic Recipes, is very intuitive with systematic approach to French cuisine. Very convenient with tables and measurement both in US and Metric system. This book is filled with colorful and artistic pictures of each recipe. A great reference book, well worth the money.

The pictures alone make me speechless! The book is pretty, the recipes are great. Unfortunately, I did not get hard cover...
