Diversity in Fiction! Yay!!!!

Ah, shoot! I am sorry to leave this series behind. I loved that these were perfect people in love but rather real people with real problems that don't easily resolve in a bundle of flowers and a ring.
The main character, Millie has a few extra pounds and self-esteem issues. Her main squeeze, Sam is a quadriplegic. He's cute, but, can you see? Real issues right off the bat. Yet these two are engaged.
Jealousy is the worst part of this book. I hate reading romance stories just because of this irrational emotion. But with the lighter attitude of the series mixed with some heavy-duty issues, I think this is an almost impossible combination to pull off. But Ms. Alice Wasser does a great job of it! And the jealousy issue drops by the sideline.
This is an example of what I wish more authors would take on. Stop writing about perfect, skinny, beautiful people. They don't represent the reader. Give us diversity and let us into lives that might be more interesting, if more challenging. Good job, Ms. Wasser!

This is the perfect sequel to Confessions of an Ugly Girl

This is the perfect sequel to Confessions of an Ugly Girl. We get more of Millie's endearing, self-deprecating humor and wit. More importantly, Millie grows as a character, first through the trials of dealing with her mother's prejudice against her fiancé, Sam, who has quadriplegia, and then as her relationship with Sam is threatened. I think Sam develops more as a character, too, and we see he is sometimes flawed, which makes him more real. Overall, another delightful read from this author that kept me engrossed to the very end.

You'll want to read straight through, from beginning to end!

I love this follow-up to Confessions of an Ugly Girl. This time Millie and Sam are engaged. Millie's mother is not happy about this news, to say the least. Millie wants to marry Sam, but she's less than enthusiastic about the huge, fancy wedding he wants. Enter a former high-school classmate of Millie's on whom she had a crush who starts working at the company where Millie and Sam work, and who starts to pursue Millie, saying he'd had a crush on her in high school too, though he was the handsome popular guy and she was the "ugly fat girl" (we're never sure how accurate that description is, since it is Millie who describes herself that way, but Sam who thinks she's beautiful).
The characters are fully developed, the story is fast-paced, you root for Millie at the same time that you want to call the love cop to knock some sense into her when she seems to fall for the ex-classmate's "charming" ways and pursuit of her.
I've read both books in the series, and I would enjoy seeing one more to find "what happens next."
