This is an exciting time to be in the field of web development! My book, Basics of Web Design: HTML5 & CSS3, help students develop a well-rounded skillset so they can design HTML5 web pages that work today in addition to being ready to apply of new CSS3 coding techniques. Building on the textbook's successful first edition we kept what you like -- topics introduced in two pages, color illustrations and screen captures, lots of hands-on practice exercises, and a case study website that students build as they work through the book. The new second edition minimizes coverage of XHTML and focuses on HTML5 and CSS. There are now two case study websites for students to practice with. There is also expanded coverage of responsive web design techniques including media queries with hands-on practice exercises. exercises. Today's learners are busy multitaskers. About the Author
Dr. Terry Ann Felke-Morris is a Professor at William Rainey Harper College in Palatine, Illinois. She holds a Doctor of Education degree, a Master of Science degree in information systems, and numerous certifications, including Adobe Certified Dreamweaver 8 Developer, WOW Certified Associate Webmaster, Microsoft Certified Professional, Master CIW Designer, and CIW Certified Instructor.
Dr. Morris is an innovative instructor and was awarded the Harper College 2002-2003 Glenn A. Reich Memorial Award for Instructional Technology in recognition of her efforts. In 2006, she received the 2006 Blackboard Greenhouse Exemplary Online Course Award for use of Internet technology in the academic environment. Dr. Morris was chosen by the Instructional Technology Council (ITC) as the recipient of their 2008 Outstanding e-Learning Faculty Award for Excellence.
With over 20 years of information technology experience in business and industry, Dr. Felke-Morris published her first website in 1996 and has been working with the Web ever since. A long-time promoter of Web standards, she has been a member of the Web Standards Project Education Task Force. Dr. Morris is the author of the popular Web Development and Design Foundations with XHTML textbook, currently in its sixth edition. She was instrumental in developing the Web Development degree and certificate programs at Harper College and currently is the senior faculty member in that area. My mistake for not reading the fine print.

I'm sorry but I thought I was buying a complete textbook but it is missing several files. These files allow you to complete the exercises in the book. Without them you will have to buy an access code ($25) to complete them.
Just a heads up for those who might be buying this as a textbook.

Don't buy the kindle version

This is ridiculous. It is missing the activity pages so I can't do the homework. They should say it doesn't include all of the text. The last page of every chapter is left blank.

A book which can help most beginner web designers.

Most of this book is easy to follow and does give many good examples how to code correctly. There are areas which could be improved to give example codings for those who have trouble conceptualization or mentally visualizing what is needed to be done.
For CSS, it could be mentioned if certain coding needs to be place in a specific area, or if each coding is stand-alone. This can be confusing for beginner web designers.
The reason for 4 stars is for the areas in which are not defined enough to understand where coding is supposed to be set, especially in the .html file.
